Casio Pathfinder PAW2000 – Feature Review
As with the many other trek watches Casio Pathfinder PAW2000 has features galore. But does the increase in functions make them increasingly difficult to use? Apparently not!
This new Pathfinder addition has many things different to its previous brothers but I think you will find that Casio is heading in the right direction. The Casio PAW2000 is not as bulky as the previous pathfinder versions which is definitely a plus in my opinion.
An enhanced screen with a Duplex LCD has also been included to give better visibility. This with the added slimmer design have been included to help make the watch more user friendly. Compared to other Trek Watches out there on the market, it is hard to find a watch that is more user friendly than the pathfinder.
The atomic clock included in this watch helps to make this watch more accurate then ever. This feature is integrated into the watch perfectly to make it easier to sinc at your discretion.
These are all good things but after using the watch for about a week, I did find something which I wasn’t exactly thrilled about. The alarm (as significant or insignificant as you may think) was a little too quiet. I think it would be a little difficult to use to wake up. Maybe I am just a heavy sleeper. In saying this, if this is the watch’s biggest problem than I think we can count the overall watch as a success!
Features of the Casio PAW2000 include:
- The Altimeter shows the current altitude and is able to store up to 25 records. The altimeter is also able to track your ascent and descent data.
- The Barometer/Thermometer calculates and displays the current pressure. This feature is also able to graph the weather for up to 20 hours.
- The Compass does what you need it to do. It is simple and accurate and includes magnetic declination correction.
- Solar Atomic Timekeeping (receives signals from 6 atomic clocks around the world for accuracy)
- Display the Sunrise/Sunset data with the fully automatic calendar.
- World Time function – this function can display the time in 31 different times zones and 48 cities.
With this watch you have one of the most accurate trek watches on the market. The solar charging is also very helpful as you are charging up the watch as soon as you step outside. But if you do happen to be out of the light for a period of time the watch goes in to a kind of hibernation state to save energy.
Have you heard of the Auto Illumination feature. This is pretty cool. It means that you don’t have to use your other hand every time you want to check the display, the watch automatically activates the black light. This reliable features means that all you need to do is tilt the watch towards you and the black light is activated. This feature can also be easily disabled if you need greater stealth.
The customization of all of the features in the PAW2000t are not over the top. Tthere is still enough to make the watch suit your lifestyle and needs. If you are a seasoned Casio watch wearer then you will not have any issues adjusting to the controls. However if you are new to Casio or ABC (Altimeter, Barometer & Compass) watches then there is a slight learning curve you will go through at the start. Casio have tried to make this as unproblematic as possible.

How Exciting!!!
The Conclusion
For a watch that has a bounty of intelligent functions jammed into it, it is not that difficult to use. It does take some getting used to if you have never owned a Casio watch before though. I think that if you are going to buy an expensive watch to use when trekking and you want all of the features which come with an ABC watch then you won’t mind learning and adjusting to the use of it.
If you have read some of my other blogs you will have realized I am a big stickler for accuracy. There are many “Trekking Watches” out on the market which are just not as accurate as they need to be. Yes, this is usually the cheaper ones but there are also some top of the market ones which are just not quite up to scratch. The Casio Pathfinder PAW2000 passes my anal retentiveness for accuracy.
Well done Casio!
